Phage & Microbiota Modulation: Synergetic Role of Phage and Probiotics

Dr. Ben Raymond, University of Exeter, United Kingdom will join the Phage Therapy 2023 Congress to present a talk entitled “ Phage & Microbiota Modulation: Synergetic Role of Phage and Probiotics ”.

Manipulating the microbiome to remove multidrug resistant bacteria such as Escherichia coli ST131 would be a valuable strategy in preventative medicine.   Using a series of in vitro experiments Dr. Raymond and his team show the potential of a combination of selective phage predation and within species competition from a probiotic on the suppression of a drug resistant target.

Combined approaches with phage and probiotic were orders of magnitude more effective than single tactic strategies and have the potential to break the frequency dependent dominance of resistant residents
