Phage Defense Systems: Are they an Obstacle for Phage Therapy, will be presented by Prof. Stan J.J. Brouns from the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.
Prof. Brouns will discuss the presence and discovery of innate phage defense systems in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and how they influence the susceptibility of strains to phages. He will also highlight the specialized mechanisms that phages have to evade phage defense.
Prof. Brouns’ research group at Delft University of Technology is built around the theme of microbe–bacteriophage interactions, and tackles important questions related to how bacteria become resistant to phage infection and how bacteriophages escape defense systems. This theme is highly relevant for the potential clinical use of bacteriophages to treat infections by antibiotic-resistant infectious bacteria.
